Top Ten Travel Nursing Qusetions

Hello everyone! We hope that you had a wonderful thanksgiving and are successfully able to get back into the swing of things. We know that the approaching new year means its time for the resolutions to be made; maybe its time to try out that first travel nursing assignment!  asked our recruiters what the top ten questions they typical receive from new travel nurses were.  We hope that the below can serve to answer to some of the questions that you might have regarding various aspects of travel nursing. 

 What are the requirements for becoming a traveler?

You must be a graduate of an accredited health care professional program in the United States. You also need to provide a valid license or certification and proof of the right to work in the United States. Furthermore, most hospitals require at least a year of experience. 

 How much experience do I need to become a travel nurse?

You need to have at least a year of experience. Some specialties, such as med-surg and rehab require a minimum as high as 24 months. If you don’t think you have enough experience, but are still interested in travelling you should still register with us so when can call you when you are ready!

 What will my pay rate be?

Pay rates will fluctuate per facility.  However, it is a fact that nurses with  travel nursing jobs receive excellent pay—in fact, on average, a travel nurse makes 15-18% more than their staff counter-parts!

 What qualities will help me become a successful traveler?

Obviously, you nee to be a good nurse to be a good traveller, but there are a few other characteristics that contribute to a travel nurses success. Being independent, flexible, and having great communication skills will ensure a wonderful travel assignment not matter where you go!

 Will traveling look good on my resume?

YES!  A resume with travel experience and good references reflects that you have all of the qualities mentioned in the previous post.  

 Do I need a new license for each state I travel to?

Each state has its own rules and regulations regarding licensure. We at Aya will work with you to ensure that you obtain the required license for your assignment state well before your start date.

 What about a 401(k) program?

 Can I work as a traveler in my own hometown?

Absolutely! One of the most lucrative things a nurse can do is take a travel assignment that is close to home.  This way they can maintain the lifestyle they are used to, but also increase their profit margins at the same time!

Will I receive medical and dental Insurance?

Yes! Aya Healthcare works with national healthcare providers to ensure that all of our nurses are taken care of during their travel assignments!

Can I Take an assignment with a friend?

Yes! We often place friends and spouses together in the same hospital! WE also can work to provide shared housing for you and your friend!
